As part of the national observance of the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Tripura Centre
organized the Swachhta Hi Seva Campaign, 2024 (SHS 2024). This campaign was held with the theme "Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata," aimed at rekindling collective efforts
towards cleanliness and sanitation across the nation. The campaign incorporated a 'whole of society' approach with three core pillars:
- Human Chain: Symbolic events where people joined hands to raise awareness about cleanliness and sanitation.
- 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' Activities: These efforts were aligned with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), encouraging sustainable living and reducing waste
- 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' Plantation Drives: Tree plantation drives were organized across the farm and office premised, accompanied by beautification efforts to enhance the environment.
Activities at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Tripura Centre
ICAR RC for NEH Region, Tripura Centre actively participated in the campaign by organizing a variety of activities to promote the importance of cleanliness, environmental sustainability, and sanitation. Below is a summary of the events:
- Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam (18th September 2024):
ICAR-Tripura Centre hosted a one day campaign on "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" and Celebrated the World Bamboo Day, 2024, where all staff members and student trainees from the College of Agriculture united in celebrating the day by developing Bamboo setum and Jackfruit gene bank through planting of bamboos and Jackfruit germplasm, respectively. The program was inaugurated with the planting of bamboo and jackfruit plants by the Chief Guest, Mr. Kush Roy, Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) from the Tripura Forest Department, Government of Tripura. He generously provided bamboo planting materials free of charge and assured us of his continued support in the future. Furthermore, the program concluded with the joint collaboration between ICAR-Tripura Centre and the State Forest Department. - Swachchhata Pledge and Human Chain (21st September 2024):
On 21st September 2024, a Swachchhata Pledge ceremony was conducted at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Tripura Centre. The office staff, research scholars, and officials took the pledge to remain committed to cleanliness and environmental responsibility in both their professional and personal lives. The pledge highlighted the importance of keeping surroundings clean, promoting hygiene, and ensuring the integration of cleanliness practices into daily life and agricultural activities.
On the same day, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Tripura Centre organized a Human Chain event to raise awareness and demonstrate the organization's commitment to cleanliness and sanitation. Office staff, YPs, research scholars, and skilled persons working at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Tripura Centre actively participated in forming a human chain, symbolizing unity and dedication to cleanliness. This event was designed to encourage the wider community to engage in cleanliness initiatives and promote a cleaner environment.
A Swachchhat Dialogue was also held where discussions were centered around the role of sanitation in everyday life, particularly within agricultural activities. The dialogue emphasized the need to adopt proper hygiene and sanitation measures to improve the overall health and well-being of the farming community and agricultural workers. Various suggestions were made on how to integrate sustainable sanitation practices in agricultural processes to minimize contamination and promote eco-friendly practices.
